Overview – Carolyn Douthwaite

Career history:

2006-2010   MD of PiR Interims
2010-date    Founder of Bioscience NEDs
2002-2006   Co-founder and MD of PiR Group

Highlights of her leadership included:

  • securing long-term, preferred supplier relationships with a number of mid-capped global life science companies;
  • building a highly effective internal research team which delivered against client projects and excelled at conducting fresh research and transparent reporting

Recognised the potential for interim management in the sector and launched the PiR Interims brand in 2006.

Carolyn became the Executive Chair role of PiR Interims in January 2011 and assumes the same role for the PiR rebranded business in November 2011 www.pir‑resourcing.com. This move forms part of the succession planning for the business, to strengthen the overall leadership and strategic positioning as the company continues to grow its home market and develop new services. With responsibility for business development, strategic alliances and new business services, she has been instrumental in developing the wider range of recruitment services now offered by PiR.

Bioscience NEDs is the sister company of PiR Limited, and was created by Carolyn Douthwaite in February 2010 in response to client demand.

Outside of work, Carolyn can be found playing tennis, trying to control a wayward, but powerful forehand; and is a late adopter of spinning classes (grimace)! She is also an active Trustee of a regional charity, Care Network, which supports the elderly across Cambridgeshire. "I consider myself to be incredibly privileged in life and love being able to channel some of my natural skills towards such a worthwhile cause."

From the research we have conducted, it is clear there is a gap in the market for an organization which understands the sector, particularly with the increased attention being directed at Boards through corporate governance issues. Bioscience NEDs aims to address this need through its access to an impressive pool of talent who understand the challenges and issues of life science companies and have the appetite to really make a difference.
