Bioscience NEDs is the sister company of PiR Limited, and was created in response to client demand.

"At PiR Limited we were seeing an increasing number of requests for NEDs from companies in the early stage and emerging bioscience space," says MD, Carolyn Douthwaite. "It became clear that there was a gap in the market for an organisation that understands the sector, particularly with the increased attention being directed at Boards through corporate governance issues.

We have an extensive network of senior- and Board-level contacts within the pharmaceutical, biotech and medtech industries, and so it seemed only natural to take that one step further and create a specialised service, bringing together these highly experienced NEDs with the companies who would benefit most from their experience."

As the Boards of lifescience companies are coming under more pressure to perform, often with fewer resources, the value of experienced non-executives has become more prominent than ever. It is essential that the non-executives appointed to any Board have the correct expertise and personal qualities to enable them to make a real difference to the companies they serve. It is, therefore, critical to be able to identify non-executives that are diligent in their responsibilities and able to undertake their duties professionally, coupled with the appropriate technical expertise that complements their fellow directors.
